2021 End of Year Message from Stad's Crabfest

Dear Friends:

We hope you are enjoying a happy and healthy holiday season. As we bid goodbye to 2021, we gratefully reflect on the continued progress of our Mission and the overwhelmingly generous support you have provided, which makes our Mission possible. We are also happy to report that we made the following additional grants this month to prior Stad’s Crabfest recipients:

Pathways Cooks - $4,000 (Women undergoing cancer treatment and their family members receive nutrient-rich, organic, meals and sides. The delicious and healthy meals and sides are delivered each week directly to the women’s homes)

Camp Kesem - $2,500 (Committed to creating a world where every child who has a parent with a cancer diagnosis or has lost a parent to cancer is never alone. Kesem supports these children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community)

Elle Foundation - $2,500 (Creating memories of joy for children with cancer & granting final wishes for children battling a recurrence)

Mary’s Place by the Sea - $2,000 (A respite home for women who have been diagnosed with cancer, which provides services, both in-person and virtually, that complement their medical treatment)

We could not have made the above grants to these worthy organizations without your financial support, which has been outstanding throughout the pandemic.

Stad’s Crabfest support at work in partnership with Team Campbell Foundation

On Thursday, August 12th, 2021, the Stad’s Crabfest Board was invited to join members of the Team Campbell Foundation to tour the Children’s Hospital of Hackensack Medical Center and to learn more about the new MRI Goggles that are being used to provide comfort and calm to pediatric cancer patients and their families.

Team Campbell Foundation was Stad’s Crabfest’s 2019 Primary Grant Recipient. The Foundation was named after Campbell Hoyt, who for 5 years courageously battled Anaplastic Ependymoma, a rare cancer of the brain and spine, before passing away in August of 2014 at the age of 8. Because of our matching Grant, Team Campbell was able to purchase MRI Goggles for the Medical Center, although it took a little longer to donate them because of the pandemic.

During my visit, I learned more deeply about how children experience multiple, hour-long MRI scans as part of their cancer diagnoses, monitoring, and treatment. Due to the length of the MRIs in which the patients cannot move, they often need to be sedated, which can cause additional negative side effects and additional trauma. With the MRI Goggles and accompanying headphones specially made to work within an MRI (nothing metal, like a Tablet or iPad can go into an MRI), patients can now enjoy a movie or TV, or listen to relaxing or upbeat music, calming them and occupying them enough to avoid the need for sedation during the MRI.

Hospital personnel, including Amy Glazer of the Children’s Hospital and “Tackle Kids Cancer” programs, expressed that these MRI Goggles have greatly improved the patient treatment experience and reduced trauma by providing much needed comfort to their families. Upon hearing this, I couldn’t help but think that this is directly aligned with Stad’s Crabfest’s Mission.

I had the pleasure of touring the Medical Center with Campbell’s parents, Greg and Robyn Hoyt who expressed deep appreciation for our Grant, which made this partnership possible. I also learned how Team Campbell is funding research with the goal of curing Anaplastic Ependymoma and other forms of pediatric cancer. It is comforting to know that there are others working towards easing the lives of children and families who must navigate the difficult journey of living with cancer. Thank you, Stad’s Crabfest Community for your support that allows us, together, to make these advancements in support of families facing cancer possible. -

New Years 2020 Update from Stad's Crabfest

Happy New Year, Friends:

We hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season.  On behalf of our Board, I am happy to update you on Stad’s Crabfest’s recent efforts to raise awareness and enhance the quality of life of those affected by cancer—which we could not have accomplished without your generous support.

In December, we presented a check for $2,500 to Camp Kesem, one of our prior primary Crabfest recipients.  The donation will be used to support their 2020 camp for children who have a parent battling cancer.  And last weekend, we presented our 2019 Crabfest recipient, Team Campbell Foundation, with a check for $25,000.  This donation, which was derived from the proceeds of our June 2019 Crabfest, will be used to co-sponsor along with Team Campbell, the purchase of CinemaVision MRI Goggles for Hackensack University Medical Center.  These Goggles will make a tremendous difference in the lives of children with cancer who undergo numerous, and often scary, MRI experiences.  "CinemaVision is a convenient, versatile and user-friendly 3D virtual reality system. It provides multiple entertainment options from standard video, television and PC input, while offering two-way communication with technologists and dramatically reducing MRI gradient noise.”

It is our pleasure to share this great news and the attached photos with you regarding these recent donations to extremely worthy recipients.  As always, we thank you for supporting the mission of Stad’s Crabfest.  You make a difference and you change lives.  We hope to see you at this year’s Stad’s Crabfest on Friday, June 26, 2020.

Sincerely,

The Stad’s Crabfest Board

Dear Crabfest Community:

Stad’s Crabfest Inc. wishes you Season’s Greetings and thanks you for your support of our mission.  Since June of this year, Stad’s Crabfest Inc. has been able to support:

1) The Elle Foundation, which grants wishes for children with a recurrence of cancer.

2) Sister Pat’s Kids Camp, a weeklong camp for children with cancer and blood disorders, by sponsoring a science room and karate class for campers.

All of this could not be possible without your generosity and support of our mission of raising awareness and enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer.

Stad's Crabfest - New Date and New Place fo 2018

Dear Friends:

Stad’s Crabfest has exciting news! Please save the date for this year’s event.

FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2018 AT SHACKAMAXON COUNTRY CLUB IN SCOTCH PLAINS.

Yes, we are moving. We anticipated the gym at St. Helen’s Parish being unavailable, so we have relocated. We appreciate the generous support St. Helen’s has given us over the past five years. It has been a wonderful location for us to gather, enjoy each other’s company, and further our mission of enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer.

Although our venue will change, Crabfest will continue to offer plenty of delicious food from the sea, music, dancing, and other attractions. The Board is currently in the process of considering candidates to receive the funds you so generously donate. If you know a nonprofit organization, consistent with our mission, dedicated to helping those affected by cancer that can use our support, please reach out to us either personally or by email at: stads.crabfest@gmail.com.

We value for your friendship and support and look forward to being with you for another fun-filled evening on Friday, June 29 at 7:00 pm.  Mark your calendar!
